Common uses for Famvir Famvir is an antiviral used to treat herpes zoster (shingles) and genital herpes. Famvir may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Before using FamvirINFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking with Famvir. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding while taking Famvir.
Famvir DirectionsFollow the directions for using Famvir provided by your doctor. Famvir may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. TO CLEAR UP YOUR INFECTION COMPLETELY, continue taking Famvir for the full course of treatment, even if you feel better in a few days. Do not miss any Famvir doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF Famvir, take Famvir as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose of Famvir, skip the missed Famvir dose and go back to your regular Famvir dosing schedule. Do NOT take 2 doses of Famvir at once.
Famvir CautionsIf your symptoms do not improve within a few days of taking Famvir or if they become worse, check with your doctor. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE other than Famvir, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. IT IS UNKNOWN IF Famvir IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Famvir.
Possible Famvir side effectsFamvir SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or tiredness. If these Famvir effects continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY about taking Famvir if you experience hallucinations, disorientation, or confusion. If you notice other Famvir effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
