Why is Aciphex prescribed?
Aciphex is used to treat conditions where the stomach produces too much acid. Aciphex can be used to treat these conditions which include peptic ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
How should Aciphex be used?
Aciphex comes as a delayed-release (long-acting) tablet to take by mouth. Aciphex is usually taken once a day for extended periods of time. When taken for ulcers, Aciphex should be taken after the morning meal.
Swallow the Aciphex tablets whole; do not split, chew, or crush them.
What special precautions should I follow when taking Aciphex?
Before taking Aciphex/rabeprazole,
- Tell your doctor if you are allergic to aciphex or rabeprazole, lansoprazole (Prevacid), omeprazole (Prilosec), pantoprazole (Protonix), or any other medications.
- Tell your doctor if you have active or inactive liver disease.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking Aciphex, call your doctor.
What side effects can Aciphex cause?
Aciphex may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if these Aciphex symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- headache with Aciphex
- upset stomach with Aciphex
- diarrhea with Aciphex
- stomach pain with Aciphex
- vomiting with Aciphex
- constipation with Aciphex
- dry mouth with Aciphex
- increased or decreased appetite with Aciphex
- muscle or bone pain with Aciphex
- drowsiness with Aciphex
- dizziness with Aciphex
- difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep with Aciphex
There may be other side effects from Aciphex. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this Aciphex medication.

What other information should I know about Aciphex?
Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory. Your doctor will order certain lab tests before and during treatment to check your response to Aciphex.
Do not let anyone else take your Aciphex. Ask your pharmacist any questions you have about refilling your Aciphex prescription.
What storage conditions are needed for Aciphex?
Keep Aciphex in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store Aciphex/rabeprazole at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any Aciphex/rabeprazole that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your Aciphex/rabeprazole.

In case of Aciphex overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
What should I do if I forget an Aciphex dose?
Take the missed Aciphex/rabeprazole dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next Aciphex dose, skip the missed Aciphex dose and continue your regular Aciphex dosing schedule. Do not take a double Aciphex dose to make up for a missed one.
